Meta Restructures AI Teams to Accelerate Innovation

Meta has reorganized its artificial intelligence division into two distinct units: the AI Products team and the AGI Foundations unit. This strategic move, announced by Chief Product Officer Chris Cox, aims to expedite the development and deployment of AI-driven features across Meta's platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The AI Products team will focus on consumer-facing applications, while the AGI Foundations unit will concentrate on advancing Meta's Llama models and broader AI research.

This restructuring comes as Meta intensifies its efforts to compete with AI leaders like OpenAI and Google. By delineating responsibilities between product development and foundational research, Meta seeks to enhance efficiency and innovation within its AI initiatives. Notably, the reorganization does not involve any job cuts, reflecting Meta's commitment to strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Salesforce Acquires Informatica for $8B to Supercharge AI Strategy

Salesforce has announced a definitive agreement to acquire data management leader Informatica for approximately $8 billion, offering $25 per share in cash. This strategic move aims to enhance Salesforce's AI capabilities by integrating Informatica's robust data cataloging, governance, and Master Data Management tools into its platform. The acquisition is expected to bolster Salesforce's AI-driven services, particularly its Agentforce platform, by providing a more comprehensive and trusted data foundation.

By combining Salesforce's Einstein AI with Informatica's CLAIRE AI engine, the company plans to create a unified architecture for agentic AI—enabling autonomous agents to operate safely and effectively at scale. This integration is anticipated to accelerate Salesforce's growth in sectors like public services, healthcare, and financial services, while also delivering cost synergies and improved operating margins starting in the second year post-acquisition.

Talk to Claude: Using Voice Mode

Anthropic has launched a beta version of "voice mode" for its Claude AI mobile apps, now available on both iOS and Android devices. This feature allows users to engage in spoken conversations with Claude, receiving voice responses and on-screen summaries in real-time. Free users can access approximately 20–30 voice messages per session, while paid subscribers benefit from higher usage limits and additional integrations with Google Calendar, Gmail, and Google Docs (the latter exclusive to Enterprise plans).

To activate voice mode, users tap the sound wave icon next to the microphone in the chat input field, select from five available voice options, and begin speaking. The feature is designed for hands-free interaction, making it ideal for multitasking scenarios like commuting or daily planning. Users can seamlessly switch between text and voice within the same conversation, with transcripts saved for future reference. Anthropic emphasizes safety by offering a limited set of voices to prevent impersonation and by enforcing its standard usage policies within voice mode.
